I have a user who reports a problem with clicking on a link within his email. He is using Outlook 2000 on a Windows 2000 Prof. OS and when somebody sends him an email and there is a web address in the body of the email, he will get the message, the operation has been canceled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Would that have to do with his internet options in Internet Explorer or is there a setting within Outlook that would handle this setting? I'm looking in both places but cannot find anything.

Thanks
Jason

If the client copies and pastes the link from the e-mail to the browser does it work or do you get the same error?

If it works check the file association for URL: Hyper Text Transfer Protocol to see what command line it is running for the OPEN command. joegz

I did test it. I sent the user a link, a valid link, and it came up with the same error. Where would I go to find out the file association for http?

Under Windows Explorer
Tools - Folder Options
File Types

If you are looking at the extension alphabetically look under N/A for all the URL file associations.

It should be running a command similar to this:
"C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe" -nohome joegz

Those settings are set properly. The user went home for the day and now I'm on his computer. When I try to send myself a url, then open in within outlook 2000, I get the message, the operation has been canceled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Are there any settings in Outlook that would affect this? I'm signed on as administrator and it is still having that same problem.

Then it strictly and IE issue and it could be a couple of different possibilities.

Check if the inetcpl.cpl is in the system32 folder. If that checks to be OK check the key

hkey_current_user/software/policies/microsoft/internet explorer/restrictions and see if a value called NoBrowserOptions exist. If so delete the key and restart the machine.

If you don't see that value check for anything else listed in the restrictions key that is not on your machine. joegz
