Set-up: IE5.5 SP1; Windows98; Telewest Blueyonder Broadband;

The problem is this, although I have clocked my Dl speed on many bandwidth tester as generally over 50kbps and also get regular file downloads of around 50-80kbps I seem to struggle when simply browsing the web.

Everytime I go to a page I seem to be only able to achieve dial-up speed downloads or at least only a little better than that. Also on most urls or images I am having to click multiple times to get them to work, I don't know whether this is required or they are just delayed by say ten seconds and this is by chance when I click for the tenth time?? This does not seem to be connected to particular sites either as i have tried it on many.

I have seen a couple of similar sysytems on the same service which absolutely fly through pages!

Please help!!

There are a few problems with blueyonder at the moment, one being the massive amount of Code Red traffic, my firewall has logged 68 hits today, most of which are down to Code Red. If you you're not running a firewall, go to and download Zone Alarm free asap.

The other problem seems to be the 'transparent' cache they are using. There were an enormous number of problems, which seemed to be sorted out, but recently there have been a few issues. I don't know if it's down to the cache again, but if you email me at tech@woodcom.co.uk I will let you have alternative cache settings. They are quite legal, a Telewest tech gave them to me! This will sort out whether it is the cache, or you have some other problem.

It does also seem to depend what node you are on, but the fact you're getting reasonable dl speeds, suggests it is a webcache problem.
