Recently I find that MS Explorer has become selective about if it will open a link or button such as "click here".

Some sites will open when clicked while others cause a hang-up. The computer becomes active again after a three finger salute and selection of "end task". This applies also to some buttons as mentioned above.

On the last such failure, I right clicked and the item then downloaded.

Any help will be much appreciated.

You mean the error is 'site-dependent' and still occurs if you change to another mouse (?)
