I am using Vista.

Recently (perhaps after an auto-update), I found it became difficult to move the windows such as IE and Notepad by clicking their top bar and dragging. When I clicked the top bar, the window became full screen.

Moreover, it became difficult to highlight some words in IE or Notepad by clicking and dragging. I need to click and Shift click to achieve that job.

I have tried to adjust the Double-click speed in the Mouse Properties but no use.

Any idea?

What kind of mouse are you using, or if a laptop a touchpad or external mouse?

If wireless, uninstall and reinstall, replace batteries. If USB or PS2, I would try a different mouse, as it sound like this one might be on its way out.

Thank you.

All I am using are normal: normal PC and the mouse has got wire connected.

If it is USB(square connector), I would unplug it from the back of the system and try a different USB port. Any of the others will work. If PS2, I would buy a cheap $5 USB mouse and try it to see if it fixes your issue.

With the window movement it does feel like your Mouse is registering a double click instead of the intended single and hold down click.

Thank you.

I have tried to use different USB port but still the same.

Sounds like your mouse might be on its death bed. I would purchase a new one or borrow one from another PC in the house or a friend to verify. If another mouse works just fine, then that was your issue.

If you are severely strapped for cash, there is the Click Lock feature in the Mouse options under Control Panel-Mouse.

Hi DrB0b,

You are 100% right. It works fine now after I opened and cleaned the mouse. Just don't understand how the dust can go into it, reach the wheel and block the railing of the wheel, and so much dust!

Thanks a lot.

Glad you got it all sorted out! Dust and debris are a pain in the backside when it comes to computers in general.
