Hello all, I have a Cisco ASA 8.4 and I am a staunch CLI guy that is at a new job where they use ASDM predominately. At my new place they turn 'names' on and in this instance I have a long list of host 'name' entries that I put through the CLI. When I go to paste in my access rules, which point to the 'name' entries I get the command unrecognized error.

My first question is how do I get the CLI to recognize the 'name' entries when configuring the ACL's?

Not having an answer to that first question, I ventured into the ASDM of the new device. I go to the Config button and click on Firewall, on the far right is a list of Network Objects, in IP format. Is this list supposed to the be same as the 'name' list in thet CLI? If so why didn't it pick up the name associated with the IP address.

Thanks.

To my knowledge the asa will replace an ip address with a name, but you can't use a name in any fashion in the cli such as you describe.
