does anybody know how to clear out direct printer? or say refresh?

direct printer is right at the "/dev/printer1" and i think i have problem with the physical connection. the system showed:

# ls -all /dev/printer1

prw-rw-rw 1 root system 2365 Sep 01 02:00 /dev/printer1

thanks.

What exactly do you mean by clear out a direct printer?

You could always stop the queue by downing it...

qadm -D print_queue_name

...then cancel all jobs from it

qcan -X -P print_queue_name

...or for a 'direct' printer down the queue and turn it off/on?

Yours, ever-so-slightly confused ;-)

sorry for making you confused.

I got this direct printer connected to my RS6K. I configured it as a local printer without a queue. It's working fine before but we did something with the network and until now our network guys are still working on it.

I tried to check /dev/printer1 and I got the listing from above. 'Seems to me the file's (/dev/printer1) getting bigger everytime you send jobs but can't be flushed out.

Sorry, I assumed that a direct printer was a 'direct attach' printer (i..e plugged into the back of the RS6K), but it appears that it's on a network.

You need to set up a queue for it - currently all print jobs are sitting a file /dev/printer1 and won't go anywhere because there's no-where for them to go.

thanks.

is there a way or a command, i can purge such print jobs created in a file?

I was going to suggest using qcan -X but that only works for a print queue!

I'd be tempted to use...

>/dev/printer1

...which will zero the printer1 file out. But first check in /var/spool/lpd to make sure that the print jobs are not somewhere in there first.
