Has anybody out there had any experience with erasing the EIC from an NIU2? Is this code held in a specific chip on the NIU2 and if so which chip (location, type, etc)? Any help would be appreciated.

But, it worked in the lab!!

Hi,

This issue has been discussed here no of times & some genious guys do know the procedure but no one is willing to share...

Some tips were indeed given...Look in the related threads...

there is an easy solution for NIU,
but does not work on NIU2

again, just clarifying singhbrindisi's reply

The question to ask is why you would want to do this? the whole point of the EIC is to licence a system as unique and track the changes to that licence from the original.
seems a bit daft and dangerous to me to start messing about with it. if you have a faulty NIU2 and need to move the EIC its best to do it the formal way (we had a turnround in 4hrs when we had a problem)

program0,

the biggest problem is that E/// charges a lot of money for erasing the NIU. We must prepare many systems in labo before we install them at the customer, for this purpose we have a few NIU/NIU2's. the point is that E/// doesn't really give a solution for this situation. that's why i hacked the NIU and now we can clear it ourselves (including NIU2). I won't tell how I do this, because I feel that E/// has to deal with this problem.

Anyone who has a bit of understanding about the Motorola coldfire cpu and how the firmware is built (S3 records) can hack the NIU...

Thanks for all assistance provided. Reason for asking is that networking problems are sometimes investigated in lab environment with customers data loaded and of course the licence is needed. Ability to change licence as needed makes life easier for me. NIU is not a problem for me, only the NIU2.

HI whosrdaddy ,

Can you give us any internet site to get this info about Motorola coldfire cpu?

Best regards

the NIU uses a Motorola 68360 microcontroller. the code is 68k compatible. there are enough resources on the internet on this cpu (68000). see my sig...
