My AIX server is filling up very quickly and I would like to rm some files, I would like to know what files could be removed safely what out harming any applications, etc. The version of AIX I am running is 4.2. Your help would be much appreciated.

Michelle

Michelle,

Can you post up a df -k so we can see which filesystems are filling up.

Cheers

I was like to clear down things such as var/spool/mail etc and any temp files.

Many thanks

michelle

I occasionally empty all of /tmp, however that won't help you if, say, /home is filling up. If you want to clear out /var/spool/mail, you can just delete your mail from within your mail prog... or blast them all with an rm.

Post a "df" so we can see what's going on.

Michelle,

Check /var/adm/wtmp

this is where all logins, ftp's e.t.c. are recorded and can grow to a be a large file without housekeeping.

A good place to start

To clear down :

> /var/adm/wtmp
