When you start typing in the Google search bar, a drop-down appears making 'helpful' suggestions, based on your previous searches - great idea, and I love it!

My other half hates it. "How can I make it stop?" she wails every time it comes up. The usual history and cookie clearing steps don't work, so is there a way?

IE6, XP SP2

Thanks all,

Chris

You should also be concerned with all of Google's tracker cookies. You know, the ones that the Federal Government is suing for. A program called "G-Zapper" (dummysoftware.com)removes the tracking part, leaving the cookie for Google to allow you in.

It depends on what you use Google for and how concerned you are about privacy.

As far as I know Google record data such as what is searched for, how often and how long you search, which links you click on etc. They record this against you browser version, O/S version and IP address.

If needed they can then track you down via your ISP.

So, for example if you search for shopping, computers, holidays and the like, no I wouldn't worry about it unless you are concerned about your privacy in principle. However....

If you search, for example, on how to build a bomb, or for pictures of naked children! (I am only trying to make a point here) You should be very concerned but I hope the police visit you very soon.

I hope this gives you the general idea.

BTW.

In theory your ISP can record everything you do on the Internet. The Internet is not anonymous and never has been. Every email you send has left a copy on lots of computers. Every text message you send on your mobile phone leaves a copy on several computers. Big Brother is watching you!
