I made the mistake of downloading a free trial version of Norton's CleanSweep and I have Internet Explorer. I continue to get error messages about Explorer will shut down. I tried Microsoft's pay per incindent, but it will not allow me to submit a request. I have checked Symantec's site and found what I thought was a fix. It states "Download our APITRAP.DLL file to your desktop. Restart computer in MS DOS mode and type 'cd\windows\desktop' and then 'copy apitrap.dll'." When I do this, it says "cannot copy over itself." IF that were to work, it says "type 'c:\windows\system' and choose yes if prompted to overwrite an older file.
I never get that far. What can I do to correct the error that this horrid program has done to my computer? Someone suggested to upgrade to CleanSweep version 4.0 or higher...but I HAVE A FREE TRIAL VERSION that will not upgrade and I don't want to BUY the program, especially if it causes problems like this.
Here is the repeating error message that continues to show up every few minutes even if I am doing nothing:
EXPLORER caused an exception 6d007fH in module WEBCHECK.DLL at
016f:78b32599.

I am also attempting to "go around" this problem, but I would like it to be solved if anyone can help.
Thank you for your time!

You didn't follow through:

"Download our APITRAP.DLL file to your desktop. Restart computer in MS DOS mode and type 'cd\windows\desktop' and then 'copy apitrap.dll \windows\system'"

Leave out all quotes (single and double). Reboot the system. See how that works.

I put the quotes to separate what the instructions said. They are not part of what was typed.
You are probably right about that following through because I printed it and half of the line was placed on page 2. I will try it.
Thank you.

I did exactly as directed. I got a message that said the file was copied. Unfortunately, I restarted my computer and no more than 5 or 10 minutes later, the same error message reappeared. It did not work.
This is what I did:
Downloaded apitrap.dll to desktop. It is still there.
Restarted computer in Dos mode.
At prompt, I typed cd\windows\desktop. This worked fine.
At the windows\desktop prompt I typed: copy apitrap.dll c:\windows\system and pressed enter. It said 1 file copied.
I typed exit. Windows restarted...and the error came back.
Is there any other patch or something I can do to fix it? I am trying to install a newer version of IE now. Will this work? I tried the fix Microsoft IE option that you get in the control panel install/uninstall menu. It says it cannot repair.
