I'm running Veritas Backup Exec version 8.50 for my company. All the data is writing fine, and is accepting all the data tapes.

However, when I put DDS cleaning cartidges in the drives, they eject after about 2 seconds. This started happening about a month ago.

I was wondering if anyone can solve this problem....

Thanks in advace!

How many times did you use that particular cleaning tape? Most cleaning tapes are only good for about 20 cleanings.

They are brand-new tapes. I've tried all sorts of cleaning cartridges, but they're still ejecting. Data cartridges are fine; the drives keep them.

Do you have HP drives? If so, the cleaning cartridge must be one made/designated for HP drives.

I had this problem with my drives until the tape vendor asked what type of drive I had.

Even 'universal' cleaning tapes wouldn't work unless they were marked as being for HP drives.

All the cleaning tapes are HP.

For writing data, we use both HP and Sony DDS cartridges.

Is there a way I can find out what type of drives I have? These two drives are in a Dell Poweredge 4300 Series Server.

I was using the HP cleaning tapes for months before, the drives liked them fine. All of a sudden, they started spitting them out.

Thanks for your responses, SQLBill.

Easiest way I know is to look at the back of the tape drive itself. On mine there is a sticker from Dell that says:
MODEL: Drive Module HP LTO.

You probably also could find it in the hardware listing on your computer.

(I have a Powervault 136T).
