My HP8550 has been printing docs with some smudging, and random blotches.

Any suggestions on where to clean? I noticed loose toner just about everywhere; fuser area, drum area.

TIA

Start by disconnecting the printer from the power surge, then remove all consumables from the printer (toners, drum, belt and fuser). Empty the excess waste toner bin below the toner carousell. Use use a small vacuum cleaner to suck up excess toner in any area you can reach. Use a cloth where you cannot reach with the vacuum cleaner. Check that the red-brown layer on the fuser is not too worn or scrathed. If there is excess toner burned stuck to it, use some cleaning fluid (like for cleaning music CD´s) on a cloth and rub carefully. If the layer looks OK underneath, reseat the toner.
