our tape drive is having probs reading data so i thought i'd clean the drive and i know i must be thick coz i cant do it...i go to jobs, new clean job etc but there are no drives listed to select..we only have 1 tape drive and ive had a look in the properties of that standalone drive and cant find a way to select it for a cleaning job..when looking thru the help files it says that u go 2 devices, slots under the changer listing - but theres nothing in that listing? any help would be very much appreciated!

I went down that road "setting up ceaning job" also but I believe that you just put in the cleaning tape, it runs (check activity light 10 secs.) and then pops out.
To clean a tape drive it is worth doing it possibly 3 times in succession and once a month.
These instructions were included with one of the cleaning tapes I purchased.
This is what I do and so far no problems (fingers crossed)

I have two tape systems. One is an autoloader; you can only schedule a cleaning job or use the CLEAN option on an autoloader. My other system is a single drive; all you do is put in the cleaning tape, it automatically detects the cleaning tape is in, cleans, and ejects the tape. The other difference? On an autoloader cleaning statistics will be reset to show 0 hours since last cleaning. On a single drive, you must manually reset the cleaning statistics.
