Hello everyone,
For the past week off and on I have been trying to get this MSDN copy of SMS 2003 to work on a Windows 2000 Server SP4 box. I have never used SMS before, but I find it hard to believe I am doing something very wrong.
Basically, I can get SMS 2003 to install fine (I am using a separate box for the SQL 2000 server, although I have done this installation about 5 different ways now, and I have also tried having it installed on the local machine) and it configures the SQL server with all the tables, etc, creates the program group. I can go in to the SMS Administrator Console, but no matter what I do no information ever seems to populate.
If I check in the log file called 'sitecomp.log', this message repeats over and over again:
ERROR: Could not connect to registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\SMS on site server SERVERNAME, sleeping 60 seconds. $$<SMS_SITE_COMPONENT_MANAGER><Wed Feb 23 11:26:36.971 2005 Eastern Standard Time><thread=3060 (0xBF4)>
I have tried everything, adding all users to admin groups (just for testing), checking permissions, re-installing, everything.. but I can not make it work. I also can't find much information of anything like this happening before.
Has anyone seen this particular error before, or have any idea what it might be?
