I live in spain and have windows xp in spanish.I tried to do a clean install using the xp cd,but could only install on the d drive. Now i've two os xp spanish and xp english(did not want this)i thought the cd was going to give me the option of reformating the drive but it did'nt.

would there be any conflicts with the 2 systems on the same pc and how can i reformat to leave only the english virsion?
thx

Compaq presario
pentium 4

In fact when i ran the english version ,tried to transfer some
files there was no space on the drive!!!!
what am i doing wrong??

I would get a dos boot floppy that has delpart on it this will clean every thing off the hard drive. Then you can do a clean install. If you can't find delpart let me know and I can post it on a website for you.

bob

Hi Bob,

A dos floppy is a floppy disk that a disk operating system (DOS) it has several disk tool files on it, I don't really know of any info sites. This is the google search page. also you can download some good tools from this site. the whole set of tools can be downloaded as an image to make a cd with all the tools on it.

hello wayne

thx for the info!
I've googled so much the last 4-5 days i'm going to explode...but i'm getting there..i think
The dos ploppy disks is the information i need before i install the xp cd(correct?)
The tools you mentioned ,do i need thaem all to reformat or is there a tool on the dos ploppy to do this?

thx

there is a tool on the dos floppy called delpart just boot from the A drive with the disk in it and when you get the a prompt type delpart and when the prompt comes back take the floppy out of the drive and reboot with your XP cd in and you will be able to nstall.

Yankor,

If you have a bootable copy of Windows XP on CD, just change the boot priority in your machine's BIOS (Generally you can enter the BIOS setup by pressing delete at the POST and the settings should be in either "boot" or "advanced") Once you set the initial boot device to you CD/DVD-ROM insert the bootable Windows XP disk into the drive and when prompted "Press any key to boot from CD..." Hit enter and the set up will begin. Now after loading the initial files it should come to the set up page. "Hit enter to Install Windows" is what you want. Then it will search for Windows installations and ask if you want to repair the installation, hit the ESC key to bypass this, hit the F8 to agree to the EULA and it will bring you to the partition stage. You want to delete any partition present by highlighting them, one at a time, and hitting the D, then Enter, then L when prompted until you come to "unpartitioned space". At this point hit the C key and create the partition for Windows (Leave it at the default to use the entire drive as one partition) and hit enter. Now you will be given the format options (Quick, normal, NTFS, FAT32) Choose your method and press enter. Now the format will take place and Windows will install clean of any residual of the previous installs.
