Installing a completely new hard drive. Currently running XP pro. Created a boot disk using the a\format create a ms dos book disk. Is this enough (all I need) to be able to boot up again after I install? And will it allow me to format and then access my cd rom drive to reinstall XP pro?
Any help would be appreciated.

Howdy:

WinXP is self-booting..All you have to do is go into BIOS and make sure the first boot device is set for cd-rom.

Of course, this will only work if you have a legit copy of XP..

Thanks by the way. I have an upgrade XP cd (legit) from win ME... will that work. Where can I change the bios settings. I think a: is the default boot. Right?

Watch your system as it is booting.. it will tell you how to get into BIOS.. Normally, it will say "press <delete> to enter setup" but it may be any combination of keys..

The upgrade will work for a clean install.. Just have your original cd handy in order to confirm the required check..
