Hi, I need to install 2016 Standard on my file server that has 2012 Date Center. So, I need to do a clean install. I have a few virtual hard drives connected to this server. What is the best way to replicate the NTFS permissions on the new server?

you should be able to do an implace upgrade from 2012 to 2016. Issue will be you cant upgrade to 2016 std from 2012 datacentre.

You might want to copy the files to a temporary location using xcopy

If you have another windows server and its in a domain you could use DFS
