I am running an access prograsm using internet explorer 6.0
When I first run the program it works fine. I f i close the program and NOT close internet explorer and run the program again i get a read only message for the database.

I have researched this and found out that i need to clear the offline temporary internet files each time i close the program for it to work properly.

Is there a way in internet explorer to automatically clear the offline temporary internet files so the users do not have to do it manually? OR is there a property that I can disable it altogether?

THANKS!

Maybe it is an idea to set "check for newer versions" in
IE tools>internet options>temporary internet files>settings

It's not quite what you're looking for, but may do the trick....
- click Tools > Internet Options
- select the Advanced tab
- scroll down to Security
- check the box marked Empty Temporary Internet Files folder when browser is closed

For this to work, the user has to close the browser. However, in my tech-support past, it was fairly easy to convince users to restart their browser when something went wrong, before phoning for help.

- click Tools > Internet Options
- make sure the the General tab is selected
- in the middle, look for Temporary Internet Files: click the Settings button
- change the amount of disk space to use to 0.

<marc> i wonder what will happen if i press this...[ul][li]please tell us if our suggestion has helped[/li][li]need some help? faq581-3339[/li][/ul]

so i checked the box marked - "Empty Temporary Internet Files folder when browser is closed" and when i do close the browser and open it again, it works. But the bosses do not want to have to do that. I want to make sure that there is no way to do that automatically when the browser it still open.

Could I - write code so when the database closes, it deletes the files in the temporary folder.

THANKS!

Something may be left in memory, but you could try to check 'Every visit to the page' on top of that same setting page.

What would happen if you set the link to open up in a different window and point it to the file that you want it to open up ???
And having IE "Amount of disk space to use set to 0", and having the window close after the DB is opened. Or the user manually closes the second window..

There is no stupid question, unless it is a question not asked !
