Classic Mail (aka VoySys) Not Allowing Control Unit Type to be changed

I have recently purchased a used Classic Mail voice mail system to use with our Merlin 820 phone system. I have read the entire manual that I downloaded from the avaya website, but I'm having an issue getting the Classic Mail to change the Control Unit Type. The prior owner of the system was using it with a Merlin 1030 KSU, so they had installed the expansion key. I removed the expansion key (as it is only needed for the 1030 system); and completed a system reset through the menu prompts.

The problem is, the Classic Mail unit still thinks it is attached to a 1030 KSU, and as such, will not allow me to change the Control Unit Type. When in the Admin Menu --> Control Unit Integration Parameters --> option #6 (Change Control Unit Type) is not spoken, and if I attempt to press 6, the system states it is an invalid option.

Since the Classic Mail thinks it is on a 1030 system, it will not transfer calls to the correct extensions; and thinks that the Intercom-Voice line is what is really CO Line 1. In addition, it will not light the MWI lamps on the Voice Terminals (I do have Feature Package 2 installed in the Merlin 820 KSU).

I know this system is old, but if anyone has any suggestions I would greatly appreciate your assistance!

Is there a battery than can be disconnect...so it defaults to the
orginal programming.

ExMogger is correct once the 1030/3070 upgrade key was put in the side of the voysys, It was hard coded a 1030 No turning back.

Thanks guys... Not exactly the answer I was hoping for though :-( It works okay for leaving messages, you just can't use the MWI or the auto attendant... I'm guessing there is no easy way to find a image of the software needed on the hard drive to reset it?

In the meantime, I'm looking online now at a Legend system... Let's just hope I don't get screwed again... The only trouble with purchasing used equipment--it's always a gamble.

I appreciate everyone's help, and will probably have more questions soon regarding the changeover to the Legend.

Thanks again!
