Clarion2 : can it run under Windows 98

I have just rediscovered a copy of Clarion 2.0 which I bought in 1995 but put aside in favour of Access 97. I would like to install it on my current Win98 PC, just for the hell of it, but I know there are problems with it being intended to run under win95.

Can anybody give me a quick apraisal of the problems and practicalities of installing Clarion 2 under Win98. Is there a patch or upgrade I can get hold of that will allow some degree of compatability.

Any advice people?

No problems with win98, but make sure you have 2.003

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately I have version 2.0.

I tried the program anyway and followed the step by step instructions from the Getting Started manual up to defining the first table and generating a basic App from that. When the compile runs everything seems OK. But when the application runs an error message says it cannot find CW2RUN16.DLL or, after I changed the Project target OS to Windows 32 bit, the same message said CW2RUN32.DLL could not be found. Yet both files are present in the CW20\BIN folder.

Any ideas?

Make sure \CW20\BIN is part of your search path i.e. PATH environment variable. You can set it in your AUTOEXEC.bat.

It might be worthwhile downloading the UPGRADES to v2.003, which was a stable version from

http://www.attryde.com/clarion/.

Am I dumb or what? Don't answer that.

I had thought that the autoexec had been updated omn installation to include a reference to C:\Cw20\Bin. But I didn't realise there was a pre-existing REM statement at the start of the line.


Also thanks for the link. I had a vague recollection of downloading a patch or upgrade for 2.003 but wasn't sure. I must have lost it over the years and equipment changes.
