The office I work in has a combination of Win2000 and Win98 computers all on a Netware 5.11 network. All of my Clarion 5.5ee apps work much slower on the Win2000 than the Win98 even though the Win2000 computers are much faster (400MHz vs 2 GHz). Jumping to a specific record in a browse list and then opening it takes several seconds on the Win2000 but it's nearly instantaneous on the Win98 machines.

What gives?!

This is a result of MS tinkering with caching and Oppotunistic Locking on the server OS. No longer can you expect simple file serving services from the OS. All ISAM type files can suffer from this situation, search the MSKB for the same issues with VFP.
