I got this new sound card, so that I could make the center speaker of my Cambridge DTT2200 Ananlog 5.1 Speakers work.
heres the scoop, reading through the manual, even though digital output is there (if you want to send out to a Dolby Digital Decoder, or speakers capable of decoding AC-3 is: DTT3500) , but however it states in the manual:
"Dolby Digital decoding allows Sound Blaster Live! to decode Dolby Digital output to six discrete analog channels, such as the Cambridge SoundWorks Desktop Theater DTT2200 speaker system. Thus, an external Dolby Digital decoder is not required for you to enjoy multi-speaker surround sound.
To enable Dolby Digital (AC-3) decoding:
1. In the Speaker view, clear the Digital Output only box.
2. follow the steps 1 to 3 described above in the previous section and then select AC-3 Decode.
[mixer -> Speaker view -> chose 5.1 -> advanced -> AC-3 Decoding]
3. Remeber to set Sound Blaster Live! to Digital Output Mode
"
there you have it, I did that right to the book, now I understand from the DVD point of view, you are required to use a Software DVD decoder that is capable of sending AC3 right to the card, however, my issue lies with the fact, that I cannot play the *.ac3 files located on the SBLive! CD, according to the PDF located in this folder
"To be able to listen to these high quality samples, all you will need is Creative PlayCenter 2. Just
open the .AC3 files within PlayCenter 2 and you will be able to listen to these wonderful samples."
This is not the case however with me, I open the AC3 file in playcenter2, it's opened, but will not play, it will even sometimes show the time as 00:00:-1
so I dont know what is up with these creative people, their online database seems to be extremely lacking, as if you cant find youe help within there section of what appears to only be 5 products, you have to call them up at one of their international numbers.
I just want to know why I cant play those AC3 files even tho it says, I can just throw it into playcenter2 with no problem, I even downlaoded the latest version to be sure.
my current system specifications are
AMD ThunderBird 1Ghtz
384Meg Rams
SBLive! 5.1 X-Gammer
Windows 2000 Professional
Cambridge Desktop Theatre DTT2200 (as mentioned in their own manual)
I'm sure someone else had this problem, as similar issues floating around the web based on it, it would almost appear, CL is keeping hush hush, on this, so that you'll get fustrated and go out and buy their DTT3500 which seems to be the only viable option.
