Iv just built a citrix server (metaframe Xe on a win2000 server) I can publish applications across my lan to my clients not a problem. How can i update the clients from my server with new published applications with out visting each client to set them up.

2. Then how do i tie it into the the user's login so that when they login the published apps are on there desktop.
What im trying to do is setup different logins for specified areas eg admin, managers and bookings so for the end result when setting up a new user i can just piont them to a pre configured desktop with out setting it up manully if this makes sense to anybody please help cos my brain is dead

1. If you mean that you want clients to get to show the new apps then you do not to do anything if you are using application sets (Farms). If a user is connecting to an application set, then changes you make in the administrator to publ. apps. will be reflected almost immediately at the clients. However if you mean to update the CLIENT version (program neighborhood) then I suggest you read about automatic client updates. It can be done from the server without visiting any client !

2. Sounds like you need to do some experience in profiles and policies. You can publish a desktop, assign Domain Group Rights and then make sure that users logging on get the proper policy applied and the proper profile applied. If you need a solid solution to this problem, eg if you do not want to get yourself into profiles and policies, check out Powerfuse from RES. ( It does all that in a gui.

Hi,

you can create these group as Windows group.

when you publish appls, assign this to one ore more groups,
and flag or not "add shortcut to desktop".

Another way, is to publish desktop and build different
folders on desktop (on the server) for each type of user.
This is less secure, but easier manageable.

bye

You could also create connections with the Web Client and create links on your IntraNet servers., This is how we deploy to over 500 users , 4 farms and 30 servers. It's very i depth, but I can give you a breakdown if anyone is interested. It will be a hugh post though, maybe I will create a FAQ. Mike Brown CCA
