19972003,
The Citrix XML service is important because this is the primary interface between Citrix and anything that wants to get info from services, app and content on it.
For Example: Your Web Interface service, PN or PN Agent always ask what XML port you want to use. This is because it uses that XML port to contact the server to enumare the apps and other info.
If your Citrix XML service is not registered...here is a link on how to register or change the XML port on your server.
Thank you, I have the service registered sucessfull and working properly; the other server is not complaining about the xml service anymore. But my webinterface for citrix is not working, what will be the proper step to fix it? My iis is started fine.
when I type the address in the browser list, it says server not found.
19972003,
Make sure that the XML service is not using port 80 (by default it is). This will cause conflicts with your IIS server (which also uses port 80).
Usually during the Web Interface install it will ask you if you want to share port 80 with IIS or change it.
If you are using 3.0 go to the server and open up IE. Type in \\localhost\citrix\metaframe and hit enter 2 c what happens. You should come up with the WI screen.
Try to fire up \\localhost\citrix\metaframe\wiadmin and see what that does.
if it's 4.0...open the Access Suite and make sure your WI configuration is right.
I was compared my farm server setups and I found the server which was working has a lot more folder under IIS Directory; is it possible that the Citrix Web interface for MPS corrupted? I see the application installed and it still show up in add/remove programs. Will it hurt if I remove it and reinstall or I can repair it.
Ok, I have got the Web Interface semi working, it wasn't the setting that I wanted; The previous setup was by using the config file to create the web interface; Now I used the Console to create the Web interface and there wasn't any delete button that I can delete it and re-create it; also, how can change the browser, let say I have test.sales.com and I want to change to test.sales1.com? Also, for the XML services, do I need to have the same port number on each server if they are in the farm setup though the applications are not the same on each server?
19972003,
You should be able to discover your Web Interface server and configure it how you want to. This should overwrite the config file you have on the WI server.
The URL needs to be done via DNS or NLB.
Just create a host A entry in your DNS and give it the test.sales1.com name and the IP address of your Web Interface server.
XML port should be the same on ALL servers in your farm. Remember that your users will be accessing your published apps via WI. So if they don't have their application on the WI....then they'll call you and complain.
What is NLB? So I overwritten the original WI config file on my other server? Now, if I access the server:
Test.sales2.com, it doesn't let me logon again; but if I use the WI link Just created on test.sales1.com and I was able to access both servers. Do I actually need two WI config files or once I create one on one of the server in the farm it replicates to another server? I tried to go to IIS manager to change the URL and I don't see anything I can change. Now I have type the whole path in order to go the WI instead of type: sales1.com I need to type: sales1.com/metaframe/login.
You have 1 Citrix farm with 2 Web Interface Servers.....correct?
If so, point your Web Interface Servers (via XML) to your Datacollectors or any Citrix servers in that farm.
This will ensure that both WI servers are going to "see" the same servers and applications. When you configure your Web Interface Server via the Access Suite...it asks you if you have a single WI or multiple WI. This will allow you to have a centralized config file.
NLB=Network Load Balance.
You can either purchase one or use Microsoft's built-in version of it (which suxs)....lol
Yes, again I was able to access the WI fine; but I wasn't able to get rip of the error message:
An error occurred while attempting to connect to the MetaFrame server "10.5.1.20" on port "8888". Please make sure that the Citrix XML Service is running on the MetaFrame servers and listening on a valid port. If the Citrix XML Service is configured to share ports with the Internet Information Service (IIS), please make sure that the IIS
