Citrix Servers and WSUS

Our Citrix Farms have recently developed a problem relating to WSUS, whenever I push patches the Servers have the Windows Update Process spike at 75-100% CPU usage and stop accepting remote connections, this is NOT when actually installing the patch but just when they are released.

Our policy is to release them, let them download and wait until Sunday morning (our maintenance window) and then install.

I'm wondering if anyone else has run into this issue.
