How are people optimizing their citrix servers? We are using Metaframe XPs, FR2 on win2k server. As I add new applications and subsequently remove older ones, both the computer itself and registry will require cleanups. Eventually performance will suffer. For workstations many people simply refresh the computer or restore an image to get better performance. Is there a thread here discussing this issue or does anyone have good ideas about how to keep performance up even after, say, 1 to 2 years of adding and removing applications? We are backing the drive up on to tape at another server.
Thanks for any ideas.

With windows 2000 there are several options.

You could restore a backup that you made when your server was first installed. This will get your server back into the first-install period. But you need to have made backups and you still should have them.
You could also have made a ghost image. It's very easy to reimage a citrix server because it should only contain static data. If you have you profiles for example also on that server, you could get some problems here.

Defragmenting your server never harms. This can easily be done in Windows 2000.
Check the cached profiles once in a while for their size.
Check free disk space once in a while. Even though you have a static server does not mean that the system doesn't use diskspace anymore.
Reboot your citrix server often. Once a week is good, but several times a week is even better. We have citrix server which we reboot every night.
Don't use a citrix server for other things except application providing. Often people tend to combine functionality.
Try not to use a virusscanner on your citrix server. As said, a citrix server should only contain static data.

If you keep al these things in mind, your server will be in perfect state !

Hi there here is a couple of other things that I do everynight when rebooting the machine.

wrote a batch file to do the following.
del c:\WINNT\system32\spool\printers\*.* /q
del c:\WINNT\temp\*.* /q

Also manually once a month delete the temporary internet files in the user profiles.

c:\documents and settings
search for "t.ie5"
delete all folders except Default User.

Hope this helps.
