Hi,

Is there a way to have a different profile on citrix than locally? In other words, I would like mapped drives while in citrix but not the same drives on the local machine... or the folder redirection in citrix but not locally.

Thanks in advance,

Dave

draylan,
If you are using Windows 2000 or 2003 A/D services you can assign both local profiles and roaming profiles.

If you open up A/D Users and Computers you will see both a "Profile" and a "Terminal Service Profile".
If you specify anything in the "Terminal Service Profile" it will apply to any terminal server you are logging into.

For example:
You fill out "Terminal Service Profile" mapping with \\server01\roamingprofile\%username% and that will create a roaming profile for any terminal servers.
so when that user logs into the server, he or she will receive a roaming profile vs their local profile on their workstations.

You can also do folder redirection within the GPO. Just create an "OU" and name it something like "Citrix Servers" and move all your citrix servers into this OU.
Create a global group within the OU and input all of your Citrix servers within this global group.
Then edit the GPO and do your folder redirection and other tweaks you need. Once the GPO is finished go to the properties page of the GPO (right click the "Citrix Servers" OU and click Properties and go to Group Policies) and assign that global group "apply GPO" access.

That way only those servers will receive the GPO configuration (ie..folder redirection and your other tweaks)and no other workstations or servers.

Hope that makes some kind of sense to you...lol

Thank you for the tips... very informative.

If you are going to put your Citrix servers in to an OU and have the policy applied to the machines rather than users (e.g. if you wanted to have folder redirection for desktops), then you may have to set the following setting in the GPO.

Computer configuration, administrative templates, System, Group Policy, User Loopback Processing Mode and set to replace.

This means that the GPO settings applied to your Citrix servers will win over any similar settings applied to users - this can cause problems when troubleshooting and policies aren't working as expected. Other useful settings in this scenario are beneath Windows Components, Terminal Services, where you can set a path for roaming profiles and home dirs. This allows you to specify a new profile or home dir location and apply that to the server, so that no matter what the settings are in the user object, these settings will win.

thanks draylan...hope that helps.
And nanor9909 mentioned something that I left out..(doh!)

Once the GPO is finished go to the properties page of the GPO (right click the "Citrix Servers" OU and click Properties and go to Group Policies) and assign that global group "apply GPO" access.

Are you doing this on the Group Policy Mgt or the AD Users & Computers console?

If I go to the properties from AD U/C on the Citrix Servers OU, the Group Policy tab only has an Open button. On the Group Policy Mgt console the properties brings up 3 tabs "General, Managed By, COM+".

I can not find where to assigned?

KRPGroup,
Are you running in a 2k or 2k3 A/D?
It sounds like 2k3 because 2k3 has a specific GPO snap in.

Here is what you do.
Since you already created your OU...just right click and go to Properties and choose the Group Policy tab.

This should say something about you need to open the Group Policy management and click open.

Once its open, find your Citrix OU and right click and choose create and link a GPO here.

Name your GPO and hit ok. Once the GPO is created you can assign the users or computers that will have the GPO applied or denied to them.

Hope that helps.
