I am building a MetaFrame XP server. AND I have a couple of questions.
1. I have 1GB of Memory. How big should my page file be?
2. What is the IMA database? Do I need it even if I only have one Citrix Server? Is there a tech-note out there on how to create one?
3. I have 2 partitions 1 4gb and a 63gb. Is this good or should i add another partition for the page file?

Thanks

Hi,

You need Citrix training!!!!!!!

The page file should be 2 1/2 or 3 times the size of your physical memory.

As your system is an application server, you could do with mirroring your drives and not Raid 5'ing them!

Your page file should be on another drive rather than being on the system partition.

Does this help? If not, give this to your boss and get some Citrix Training !!!!!!!! Go on Boss....spend some money on your employee, they need it!!!

Merry Xmas!

Cheers,
Carl.

Ha Ha - Thanks. That's what I suspected.
But 2.5 - 3 GB for the Page file seems like a lot. For 15 users to check there email. The 1GB Physical + 2.5 GB - is a lot. What the heck eats so much memory!

Oh yeah..
What about my question regarding the IMA Database?

Hi!

About the memory and IMA data store...

The pagefile is best configured at 1.5 - 3 times the physical RAM that you have on the machine.
Preferrably the pagefile is placed on another disk (physical) than the system. 2 reasons, first is disk operations, if you have disk heads that are only there to read/write to pagefile and the others to handle OS/applications you can win a lot if the applications are demanding. Second, fragmentation, if the pagefile is growing and reducing a lot it causes fragementation wich can hog up a system.

Usually, put it on a separate partition.

The IMA data store...
This datastore holds all configurations done for Citrix MetaFrame XP and all license information.
If you have a small farm you can use Windows own access database engine to host the DB.
Depending on the amount of users you might have to migrate to a separate server that holds the IMA DB (SQL or Oracle). also depending on how many applications etc, etc...

Another consideration is if you want to double everything on one server (disk mirroring, double power supply etc, etc..) OR if you should go for another server to double the system that way...

Personally I would go for another server wich gives better performance for the users if load balancing is configured right...

Good luck!
