Citrix over dial-up

I have a Citrix Server (Windows 2000 Server, WinFrame 1.8) on my network that I can access locally with no problems. I have a user using dialup into NT 4 RAS server. Once he logs in thru ras, he can run the TS client to the box but not the ICA client. Cannot see published apps on the server - gets error stating that the ICA browser cannot be found.

The RAS server assigns an ip address in the same subnet as the Citrix box. Any ideas why he cannot see the server with Citrix ICA client even using IP address?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I believe you mean MetaFrame 1.8 ;-)

Is the server IP address in the server location field in the ICA client?

Check that the client host has your network's DNS server and gateway in it's IP settings.

I hope this helps

Thanks CitrixEngineer,
I did mean MetaFrame. Yes the IP address is in the server location. I will have the user check the other settings but I am confident they are ok. The user can browse the internet and use the terminal server client to connect to the server.
Any ideas?

If the client cannot see the ICA browser, then I would suspect that there is something in the network settings that is preventing it.

As I understand it, the Microsoft version of ICA (RDP) is built in to NT TSE's Computer Browser service, whereby names can be resolved via WINS.

The ICA browser service works differently, and does its own name resolution using the internet standard DNS.

If a client can connect to the Metaframe server on the internal LAN, but not via dial-up, then the issue is almost certainly name resolution.

Can the client host connect if you manually enter the name of the published app in the ICA client settings?

Can it connect to the server if you take the same approach? What if you enter the IP address of the server in the Server Location field and the Server field?

Have you tried using ICA dialup? You'd need to disable RAS for this, but IME it's more reliable.

I hope this helps
