I have 2 Windows 2000 SP2 Citrix Metaframe XPe SP1 servers in a Farm. The Netware 4.8 SP2 client has been install on the server before the Metaframe software. If a user connects through the Program Neighbourhood via custom ICA connection directly to one of the server it takes around 20 seconds. If a user attempts to connect via the one and only published application(which is the whole desktop anyways) it can take up to 120 seconds. The client gets to the server quickly but then there is a slow response, about 90 seconds before the logon attempts to generate it's script. It doesn't matter if the users are on the LAN or dial-up. It's like there is a contention issue with the Microsoft client and the Netware client trying to decide which one will be used.

Maybee you need to change the priority order for the clients in the advanced settings for the Local Area Connection. You could also try to install the new 4.83 Netware client which I feel is much faster in logging in and accessing network drives than the older clients in W2k environments. If you do install 4.83, don't forget that there is also at fix for this client that fixes a problem with saving MS Office documents to a Netware drive among other things.
Hope this helps

Thanks HOF

The Netware client currently is 4.80.SP3 is this the same client you are referring to or different. If not the same how would you recommend installing this client. I am currently using Location Profiles that have wiped out some Group Policies on the server(weird)in the past. Where's the other fix for the MS Office Documents.

In the Advanced Settings - Provider Order
1. Microsoft Windows Network
2. Netware Services
3. Client Network?
Print Providers
1. Netware Print Services(still using File and Print services from Novell in our environment)
2. Client Printer
3. LanMan Print Services
4. HTTP Print Services
In the Adapters and Bindings - Local Area Connection
1. File and Print Sharing for Micosoft Networks
TCP/IP only
2. Client for Micrsoft Networks
TCP/IP only
3. Novell Client for Windows 2000
NWLink IPX/SPX?NetBIOS only

Thanks for any assistance you can provide.

No this is not the same client that I am referring to. Client 4.83 is a fairly new client released about three months ago. If you go to this adress: You will find a link to the client at the top of the page under the "Clients" section. You will have to create a login to download it.
Also in the "Clients" section, just below the Win95/98 client you will find this text:
IMPORTANT: There is a critical update available for the Novell Client 4.83 for Windows NT/2000/XP. The update is available from this link.
In this text the words "this link" are a link to the hotfix.

It is hard for me to recommend you on how to install the client since it depends on your Netware environment. I usually install as little as possible, that is I normally choose to do a custom installation and remove all components except for the Netware client if they are not needed of course.
Hope this helps.
