Hello,

We have a small lab with 2 win 2000 server computers, on a KVM Switch. It is a workgroup.

We own Citrix MetaFrameXP and 14 citrix cal's.

We need to test application with Citrix, on this lab.

I had to enable Mic. Term. Services to install Citrix Metaframe on this lab. I didn't start the Mic. Term Serv. Lic. Service.

Do we need to buy Mic. Term. Service Cal's for this lab? Is it working now because of a grace period?(This is just for Citrix testing, we were hoping to avoid the cost of additional cal's on this lab).

Thanks for your help.

I think you can run it for 30 days without the MS term license server running. Then you have to turn it on. Then PCs/clients connecting to the server will get a 90 day (pretty sure it is 90) day temp connection license. Then you cannot connect from that client without the MS TSCAL.

However, if the MF server is running on Windows 2000 (not connected to any 2003 server), any Windows 2000 or Windows XP machine can connect as it includes the built in license.

Never a simple answer when it comes to MS licensing. Bottom line, keep your test W2000 servers isolated and only connect with W2000 or Windows XP PCs and you don't need to buy MS TSCALs.

30 and 90 it is rjs. You certainly should not have to buy licenses to test it out.
