Hi

I have a remote user that cannot authenticate his locally attached printer on our W2K Terminal Server (running Citrix MF 1.8). When the 'add printer' wizard is started and the 'client network' branch is expanded, the printer is listed in the format 'SERVER\CLIENT_MACHINE#\PRINTER_NAME'.
However, when selecting this printer, the error message 'you do not have sufficient access to you machine to perform this operation' is returned. The client is W98, with no user profiles set up. The printer has USB connectivity.

I have carried out this procedure previously at another site, with no problems. I have checked the W2K security policy on the server, and printer driver installation is allowed.

Help!!!

Try this:
Go to the client machine and find out what printer driver the user is using for his printer locally. Write it down exactly (spaces and all) to be on the safe side.

Next, hop on your Citrix server and find the system32 directory. In there, you should have a file called wtsuprn.ini. Open it in notepad and add a line exactly as the others in the file. Change the first printer name to the exact name of the driver and then the second name on the line to the name of a driver you have installed on the server that is compatible.

For example, for an HP LaserJet 6P I would do the following:

"HP LaserJet 6P" = "HP LaserJet 4"

You should then be able to log the user on and go into the printers directory and see the printer.

You might have trouble with certain printers. Let us know what driver the he/she is using locally.

Thanks Jamor1999!

This worked a treat, had some problems with the driver printing out 'rubbish' (words of the user, not me), but a quick driver change sorted that out.

By the way the client printer is an Epson Stylus C42.

Thanks again!

ewww, the epson and the okidata's are killers! just keep messing with the drivers. and don't forget, if you are having a lot of trouble finding a compatible driver, check out the manufactor's web sites. They often have lists. Also, free e-mail support at some of them. You may find that some printers are not supported in a citrix environment at all.

Just thought I should post the outcome of this thread. Updating the 'Epson Stylus C42 Series' driver for my W2K server to version 5.40 via the Windows update site did the trick.

I have one very happy user, thanks jamor1999!
