We recently installed a new Citrix server with Metaframe XP on our network. Our 3 other Citrix servers are Metaframe 1.8. We are planning to migrate them to XP once we have everything up and running. The problem we are having is that if the ica browser service is running on the XP server, people are not able to connect on the 1.8 servers using published applications. Once we disable the ica browser service on the XP server, they are able to connect again. Is there a setting somewhere that should be tweaked in order for XP and 1.8 to interoperate?

Did you install the MetaFrame XP server in mixed mode? If you installed in Native mode then this will happen.

Hope this helps CitrixEngineer@yahoo.co.uk

Thanks for the response. But unfortunately, this server was installed in mixed mode. Currently I have 2 farms. Farm 1 is two NT 4.0 Terminal servers with 1.8 and Farm 2 is one Windows 2000 Terminal Server with 1.8 and this new server with Windows 2000 Terminal Server and XP. My plan was to setup this new server and join the existing farm 2. Once it was up and running I would then migrate the original farm server to XP. Do you see any holes in my plan or problems? From what I've read so far this sounds like it will work. Thanks for your help.

Which flavour of XP are you running? If it's XPs, then maybe there's a problem with it not having Load Management (Load Balancing on MF 1.x).

It's possible that setting both the Master Browser of the 1.8 farm and the XP server in the clients Server Location field could help. CitrixEngineer@yahoo.co.uk

I believe I have solved our problem. FYI for anyone else that may run into the same issue. There were essentially two things that were causing problems with our Metaframe XP becoming the master browser. Problem 1 and the most significant is that we have static routes to other locations. These routes had been added to our server but unfortunately, some of them were incorrect which caused some of our clients in other locations to not be able to login. Problem 2 was that we had installed all of our XP connection migation licenses, but we had not installed the original Metaframe 1.8 licenses. Thanks for your help Citrix Engineer.
