What are the possible reasons for the CPU to be maxing out on one particular Server running Win2k Server & Metaframe 1.8 when it's carrying the same load as the other two servers in the Farm? (the other two servers are identical in config.)

Any Help is appreciated!

Use Task Manager to help identify which processes are utilising the CPU most....

Right Click Task Bar, select Task Manager, select the processes tab, now click on the CPU tab, this will order the running processes by percentage CPU utilisation...

Under "normal"(???) circumstances you would expect to see system idle process near the "top"...!!! In a Citrix environment Termsrv.exe is another "favourite"...!!!

Look for processes which don't appear to change utilisation across say 20 seconds or more....this may indicate they have failed (spoolss.exe for print spooler if u have your printers defined on the terminal server, in particular)....

Also check the CPU Time and Mem Usage fields, watch for processes in which these value are incrementing rapidly, this might show a process which is "leaking memory" ie Not refreshing its memory useage as it should be doing, but instead utilising more and more as it continues processing....

Hope this gives u a starting point.....Task Manager is a really useful tool for this kind of fault, but it's important to try and get a "base" point for your servers, no 2 servers will perform the same....!!!!

Hope this helps.......
