citrix client will not open

I have two Windows 98se computers that have the citrix client 6.20 installed. When the users attempt to access Citrix an error pops up. PN in the title bar and the error reads "This program has performed an illegal operation and will shut down. If the problem persists, contact the program vendor." The program will open if the computer is booted in safe mode. Please help...this is driving me nuts.

Will an older version of the client work... like version 4 or something.
