ENVIRONMENT: MS WTS V 4.0 WITH SP 6, CITRIX MF 1.8 WITH SP2, APPLICATION WITH CRYSTAL 7.0 INTEGRATED WITHIN IT, APPLICATION IS PUBLISHED EXPLICTLY.

FACTS: 99% OR REPORTS RUN FINE. ALL FILES FROM \WTSRV\CRYSTAL FOLDER ARE IN \WTSRV\SYSTEM32 FOLDER. THE REPORTS ARE LAUNCHED FROM WITHIN THE APP AND PROMPT THE USER FOR PARAMETERS. THESE REPORTS RUN FINE FROM THE DESIGNER.

PROBLEM: FOR SOME USERS AND SOME ADMINS, SOME REPORTS DO NOT EXECUTE. THE REPORT BEGINS TO OPEN AND GETS "HUNG" WITH AN HOURGLASS. THIS HAPPENS TO 4 REPORTS ONLY, AND BEFORE THE PARAMTER BOXES OPEN.

I HAVE TRIED: DELETING THE USER PROFILES. CHANGING PERMISSIONS ON THE CRYSTAL DLLS. CHANGING PERMISSIONS ON SYSTEM32 FOLDER. COPYING CRYSTAL DLLS TO THE APPLICATION FOLDER.

ANY IDEAS?

WHAT ELSE CAN I DO?

Try using Filemon to find out which files are causing the "hang".

I hope this helps

Sorry, I failed to mention that I have tried that....no luck. All necessary files appear to be in the necessary locations. even according to Crystal's documentation.

OK, but did you watch the log as you ran one of the rogue reports? You'd have to do it out of hours or you'd be swamped by user activity.

Maybe one or two threads linked to particular user processes are taking an abnormal amount of time to discover that a route cannot be resolved to particular files.

Or are there Remote Procedure Call errors appearing in the event logs of either a Terminal Server, a DC or other fileserver?

I've seen Oracle Financials hang in a similar manner because it was attempting to open a local copy of Excel to show reports in. The "hang" was caused by the delay involved in squeezing a huge spreadsheet down the narrow ICA pipe. We removed Excel from the local machine, and O/F picked it up from the T/S and all was well.

Maybe this has some bearing on this?

I hope this helps
