When a user starts a citrix session does he receive His own set of registry keys such as hkey_Current_User? and if so what does it use to differentiate the keys?
I ask this because we developed and app under windows NT and it stores settings in the registry. The client wants to move it citrix. their engineer claims that citrix doesnt give users registry keys and the only way to store the settings would be in an .ini file in the users home dir. This is an ok solution. Could anyone verify this engineers statement.

Thanks

User specific information is stored under HKCU, or that part which constitues the user's profile. When the user logs on, this is loaded into the system registry from the profile (each profile contains an individual ntuser.dat) and is unloaded when the user logs off.

Terminal Server should always be put into change user /install mode at the cmd prompt before installing applications if there is any doubt as to their compatibility.

If you run the application for the first time as Administrator, whilst still in change user /install mode, and customise some settings, Terminal Server will propagate those settings to all users, once you have put the server back into execute mode. This should (by design!) propagate all ini files for you.

If ini files do not get propagated, check that only one copy exists in the %systemroot% or %appdir% location as appropriate for the app, and copy that to the users home directory. This can be done through a login script, using the %homedrive% variable for all users of the app.

I hope this is clear!

That was my first question to the engineer wass it put in install mode when the app was installed he said yes ( sorry for not being entirley specific earlier) We would like to read values from the registry for each specific user. For example the first time the app is run the user gets an id and a few default values. These settings we want to retain in the registry. So i gather from your email that citrix gets rid of the users reg settings is this correct??

Sorry - it's 3:30 in the morning here in the UK (I'm rebuilding my home network!) that's probably why my reply wasn't clear.

Citrix/Terminal Server creates user registry settings for the app.

If you need to give users some default values, install the app in change user/install mode, run the app, make the changes, and put the system into change user /execute mode.

I hope I am more coherent this time!! |-I

Were you able to resolve your Citrix registry issue. If not, AppWired has a solution that should resolve your problem. I would be happy to be of assistance to you.

How do you set the maxium idle time for all citrix users. Having a problem with people who login to citrix and stay logged in.

kudocat007...I updated your other post regarding this issue. Mike Brown CCA
