Hi All,
Need some advise. We are replacing some of our Nortel routers with Cisco 3700 series machines. I Just had a couple of boxes of software dropped off at my desk, CiscoWorks for Routed Wan and CiscoWorks for LAN Management. I'm not putting in any Cisco switches so I don't think I need the LAN Management piece yet. The WAN package has a few parts, something called CD One then Resource Manager, ACL Manager and Internetwork Perf monitor. I am planning to install this on my existing HPOV 6.2 system, a UNIX installation. CD One went in OK. My question, is this correct what I'm saying, that this is all I need to "manage" these Cisco routers? We will be running IOS 12.2 on the machines. I want to be able to "see" them correctly with OpenView. I'm new to Cisco, not to HPOV. Any "gotchas" I should be aware of? Will this new software setup new ICONS for Cisco devices? How good is this CiscoWorks product? Thanks for any advise.

Hi there rmmagow, it would be better if you go ahead and install CW2K on a different machine (other than the one you are currently using) do to "well known performance issues", since CW2K makes intensive use of resources.

There is an integration package at HP-OV's site or Cisco's site, comes in two parts one for the NNM or HP-OV side, and one for CW2K's side (you must install first the one for NNM and then the CW2K one).

Regarding the IOS versions, don't worry, they are ok.

Make sure you retrieve the latest MIB package from which includes several MIBs for every known Cisco box (almost!).

The integration is not ging to provide you with new icons, but NNM 6.2 has plenty of icons an d Cisco models for you to use already, no problem here.

Cisco Works 2000 has some pretty features, if you have telnet access enabled on the routers as well as tftp you may retrieve their configs. and sort them, etc...(if you have ssh access to the Ciscoboxes, go for RANCID!).

Plus Cisco View, Syslog server (very important!!!), etc...

I would recommend getting the Fault Management module for CW2K, without it, Cisco Works doesn´t work either as a reporting tool or NMS tools... ; )

Have fun with it, hope this helps,
