has anyone ever come across POE problems when trying to plug new devices into the switch, keep getting

ILPOWER-3-CONTROLLER_PORT_ERR: Controller port error, Interface Gi0/1: Power given, but Power Controller does not report Power Good

Existing phones work ok but new ones wont work

Any ideas??

Hi
Thanks for the reply's

1 - No inline power injectors on new phones, will this help??
Available:370.0(w) Used:50.4(w) Remaining:319.6(w)

2 - I had seen the message from the Cisco website but as usual it wasn't very helpful

Any ideas why this is happening?? There seems to be enough power avalable and i dont just want to reboot the the switch as some of the in=experienced people would do now adays. this is a Cisco Box not a PC!

Thanks

I have seen this before with cabling problems. Have you tried eliminating the infrastructure cabling and plugging the device into the switchport directly with a known good patch cable?

Andy

Hi

Have moved the same patch lead from this switch to another in the same cabinet and the phone works fine, proving infrastructure etc is ok.

Try the injector, and post a sh run from the switch. Inline power could be off?
Does this happen no matter what port the phone is plugged into?

Burt

What switch model is this? Some of the earlier POE devices had a maximum number of ports that could be powered. If you plug in too many devices, you won't get power on all the ports. Check Cisco documentation to see if there is a limit of powered ports for the platform.

Available:370.0(w) Used:50.4(w) Remaining:319.6(w)

This is a reading from the switch

Has this port ever worked? Show controllers interface g0/1 and
show interfaces g0/1, show run int g0/1

Are they all the same type switches (ones that work and ones that don't) and do they run the same IOS?

Hi,

%ILPOWER-3-CONTROLLER_PORT_ERR error is referring to a hardware problem. I fix several switches with the same problem and I can assure you that your problem is caused by failed components on the board.

Regards,

thanks for the offer but the company i work for has a maintenance agreement with BT for this.
