Hello, My company is actually involved y several changes and one off them is tha backbone equipment, basically we are comparing the passport 8010 vs the cisco 6513. does any one knows a link where I can read more info about the 8010 passport.
I almost forgot, I'm not bias I just work with both products and know, Nortels software is usually a nightmare. I work with their Passport and Contivity products and their software always seems to have bugs on basic operating stuff? If you can afford it I'd strongly suggest Cisco (pay now or pay later)...
I have to disagree with dagnagit. Cisco's hardware is great stuff,it's the sw.(don't see security alerts for Nortel).
S/w on both has it's quirks. In my area the Cisco & Nortel
post-sales support and the phone support are good.
Just like standards based, not private label.
I guess it's what you are used to.I started with Wellfleet from the Nortel side and with cisco wheh the AGS+ was the premier product.
Just my $.02

I am still fairly new with a lot of Nortel stuff, but their support can be a nightmare. The Passport group is by far the worst to deal with. I have had much better experiences with Cisco support.
If you don't run SMLT, SSMLT or whatever that disable spanning tree then Passport is ok. Troubleshooting layer-2 loop when you use SMLT with previous codes is HELL. Although RSTP or even MSTP in Cisco with previous codes also has bugs, I still believe STP.
