I use a Cisco VPN client (version 4.0.4) to connect to a Wide area network.

Once authenticated, I can connect to my mailserver, app server etc

Is the hard drive on my local client pc, then visible throughout the WAN. Or does the encrypted tunnel only work one way?

I only ask as I connect on my personal client and have personal information on there that I don't want to share with the domain admin...

Thanks..

Once tunneled in, can you still reach the internet from your computer without going through the tunnel?

An easy way to check for split tunneling is to visit a site like whatismyip.com and see if it shows your (or your router's) address, or your company's.

That, however, is unrelated to your computer's privacy.

As I recall, though it's been a couple of years since I administered a VPN, the connection is bidirectional. So, you'll want to turn off file sharing and employ a software firewall.

Check with your company about using your personal computer for this. They probably have guidelines concerning antivirus and firewalls. I'd consider your PC to be a bigger risk to the company systems than vice-versa.

Thanks for the replies.

Once connected, in order to connect to the internet, you must use a Proxy server..
