With the company I work for, we have VPN access using a Cisco VPN dialer. Now from this, we can access our billing software, as well as our email. I have accomplished this from my PC at home that has w2k by typing the address in the Run prompt - \\ipaddress. Now I am trying to do it with a laptop of one of my coworkers who has ME. I do the same things, and instead of the username and passowrd prompt, it gives me only a password prompt. How do I access the server through the VPn with ME? I tried setting some TCP/IP setting in the networking options, but that does no good.

Danno,

It's using the computer name as host name and not recognizing it. There is not "connect as" in ME.
If you are using a static DNS, the host name will be grabbed from there. Change the host name there to match the account and domain.
If DNS is dynamic the host name will be coming from the computer name. Easiest way to remedy this is to change the computer name to whatever the userid is on the domain.
In either case you'll still get just the password prompt but it will be using the correct userid and will be accepted.
Also you can go to properties of Client for Microsoft Networks and choose to "Log on to Domain" You will then get a domain logon prompt at boot that will fail but it will cache the userid and password. Use this if changing the computer name is a problem.

I changed the name of the computer to my network username. I then tried to connect again, and it gave me the following error:

The operation being requested was not performed because the user has not logged on to the network. the specified service does not exist.

I went to the properties for Client for MS Netwrk and selected logon to NT workgroup. I put in the domain name, and selected windows not to automatically connect. Still same error.

Only thing left to do is install W2k that I know of, or somehow start an FTP session? Not sure what else I can do... any other thoughts?
