I have recently purchased a UBR924 modem/router to replace my Motorola SB4100 surfboard for use on Charter Pipeline, here in Wisconsin.
I called Charter and gave them the cable MAC address off from the bottom to enter into their system.
The problem that I am having, is that, even with a completely defaulted config...so that it runs in bridge mode, my link light flashes steadily and my DSNR light does not stay solid. OK light and VOK light are solid. DS and US lights never come on. It never establishes a refquency lock, even after scanning through the entire list...it just keeps scanning top to bottom.
I THINK that I may have a signal to noise ratio issue. From what I have read, the SB4100 is pretty leniant in terms of being able to sync up on poor quality lines (and continues to work fine on the same line for syncing up), but the uBR924 needs a "ratio" of 23db or more.
From what I am able to get with show commands, I found that my signal db is being detected at +6db (which I think is pretty good), but am unsure as to what to look at to see my true signal to noise ratio or any other tuner settings.
Tonight when I get home, I plan on hooking it directly to the feeder cable that comes into the house to see if I get a link there. I am also going to hook my surfboard back up and web to it to see if that displays any additional info on the line. Please let me know if you have any other ideas.
Obviously if my signal to noise ratio is too low I'll schedule Charter to come look at the line, but I want to be sure that I can tell them EXACTLY what I am seeing prior to then.
FYI: I have tried the latest version of IOS (12.2.19), as well as the "default" 12.1 (that it boots with after a 30 second reset) and that does not seem to make a difference.
I have also tried a routed config, as per another post, but that did not help either.
On a side note, Charter said that they would leave both my cable modem MAC and my Cisco MAC entered into the system so that I could use both for now...so that I can get to the internet to get to docs for troubleshooting with my 4100.
