I'm having trouble with #copy run tftp on a cisco router. This router, routerX, is between to other Cisco routers in a wan configuration to an ethernet host pc connection.

I can get #copy run tftp to run from Cisco router1 to the pc host where the cisco tftp server is on. But from routerX I get error unknown!

host pc(tftp server) <--- router1 <-> routerX <-> router3

Question: Does Cisco TFTP work only with directly connected devices?

I've used it the same way you're trying to and had no problem at all.

Perhaps you have a acl or somehow tftp traffic is being filtered out.

cheers,

rcasta is right, that is the only chance in this case.

Thanks, for the information!

One more question, does the router and tftp server need to
be in the same subnet, in order to be able to transfer data?

If they can ping each other it'll work, so no they don't need to be in the same subnet.
