Need help,please.

I have a 800 series router as the gateway of my office lan. I´m trying to access my lan server from the outside by vpn! For example, I want to be at home or in another company with dynamic ip, and be able to access my office server by vpn...but for that I have to configure my office router with a vpn so I can create a tunnel to access the server!

From what I read the best way to do that is to create a WebVpn (SSL VPN)...the only problem is that my Router IOS does not support WebVpn´s and I do not have
access to Cisco´s IOS updates in the official site)...is there any other way to create a vpn that allows me to access my office server??

( My SDM VPN options are "SITE TO SITE VPN" , "EASY VPN REMOTE", "EASY VPN SERVER" and "DYNAMIC MULTIPOINT VPN" )

Hope you can help
Best Regards

..unless someone can correct me...or has better idea.

....the thing is the options that 800 is giving you is only compatable with other devices that support site2site, easy vpn (server or cleint)..
...that means you need a similar device (pix, concentrator, or router) that can make these vpn connections..and it will be somewhat permanent.

..for the flexibility you are looking for i know you can use a cisco vpn client (software) installed on your laptop. but this only will work with a pix/concentrator/asa. you would be able to connect from home or any network as long as you can reach the IP of that particular pix/conc/asa.

Hi,

Yes, I got the Cisco VPN client connecting to an 877 using the SDM and I'm definitely no expert. I used the Easy VPN Server wizard and used the defaults of 3DES and SHA. It's working perfectly and I'm impressed with the performance - over a broadband link there is only the slightest of 'lag' (if that makes sense) when using remote desktop etc.

Regards Colin.

I tried the cisco vpn client and it´s working fine now!
Thkx for the great advice

Cisco cheap bastards...this would have been a lot easier if they would just let us update router´s IOS. Even to give technical support on one of their own products one must be registered with cisco!

Hi Dan,

The 877 came with IOS 12.4(4)T4.
Out of curiosity, is the 'Raleigh' referring to a RN base in the UK by any chance or am I way off ?

Regards Colin.

Where can I get the Cisco VPN Client? Should I buy it?? Hopefully not. I got the same problem, I have a 877 Cisco router, I configured the VPN stuff on the 877, but I do not know how to finish this VPN connection on the client side. Please Advice where I can find this software, thanks!!! Gustavo.
