I asked on here a little while ago and a Cisco 800 series was suggested as a good reliable ADSL router to replace a couple of Netgear DG834's ...

I've got the go-ahead for that - but I've got an option for SmartNet too ... which I understand is the additional support for these boxes .. TBH it's not a heck of a lot of money but it is >10% of the purchase price of the units.
Given that I've yet to configure a Cisco box - should I at least buy the basic support ?
I'd ask in the Cisco Router forum - but questions are answered more quickly here!!

The smartnet will give u 2 things:

- Hardware replacement within the specified time window (8x5xNBD) usually suffices
- Software updates.

If u need help setting it up go to the forums. (Or post it here if u need a quick answer ;))

Get familiar with the CLI if u want serious answers though...

We deal with alot of Cisco kit. So much so we stopped using smartnet a year or so ago, we have a model of each current device in stock so we can deal with a device failure.
This has however bit us on the backside where software updates are concerned however. In my opionion I would deffo go for a Smartnet option.

Indeed, I have to say smartnet is a good product at a good price, unlike Avaya's software support and upgrades which is quite the opposite :)

Thanks for your advice again guys ... I'll go for the basic 8x5 NBD support package.

Cheers
