Hello,

I am looking for a recommendation on a firewall/VPN solution for a network with 110 pcs with future growth to around 160. Money is an issue so I have narrowed it down to the following 3 options.

1. Sonicwall Pro 2040 with software firmware upgrade/antivirus for 1 year/support for 1 year

2. Cisco ASA 5510 with support for 1 year. No virus protection.

3. Cisco Pix 506 with support for 1 year. No virus protection.

I would like to buy a Cisco but the price just gets too high with the antivirus upgrade. Would you rather have the Sonicwall with the virus updates or the cisco without?

Is it safe to run the firewall without it?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks,

I use SonicWall but i'd prefer Cisco, (Price makes the difference)

but i have 40 retail stores all using the integrated SonicWall VPN and i have no complaints

i also have about 150 users at the corporate office and 2 sataelite offices all on sonciwalls and i have no problems

I would probably say Cisco if price is really not an issue, although you also have to contemplate the configuration. Other than CISCO I would recommend Linksys (which is run by Cisco). We use The Linksys RV082 for our site-site and client-site VPNs quite happily.

Carlsberg don't run I.T departments, but if they did they'd probably be more fun.
