We have just switched phone systems to the Avaya Definity 8500. We had about 10 Cisco IP phones prior to the change. Can Cisco IP phones work on a Definity system? Is there a software download to convert the Cisco phones to work with the new system? Thanks for your help.

You could use them if you loaded teh SIP software onto the phones then setup a SIP client on the definity.

Cisco phones do not have the capability to register directly to an Avaya Communication Manager Call Server due to H.323 incompatability issues. There is no firmware or software for either the Cisco phones or the Avaya Server that I know of that can make this happen.

However, If the Cisco phones are SIP capable, there may be a way to use them with the S8500 if you are running CM3 and purchase an Avaya SIP server. I'm not sure if this is possible, especially without knowing what model of Cisco phones you have. But, for 10 Cisco IP phones, I'd say it would be cost prohibative to add a SIP server.
