Hello, we are deploying a large number of cisco ip phones [model 7945]. They are being plugged in on a cat5 network and being patched to a cisco switch. The phones are made live and are left there for the users to subsequently plug their PCs in at a later date.
However, the IP Phones do not power up.
The fix we are using is - at the patch panel or at the desk - we plug in a 5 port netgear switch for a few seconds. We then take the lead out of the netgear switch and plug it into the phone which then powers up ok. It's as if the switch port is 'asleep' and the ip phone won't wake it up but the netgear will! [note the netgear switch is a fast way of doing this as opposed to using a laptop to wake the port up. It's a 5 port switch because it's small and portable].
What's going on!
