Hi Guys,

I have a customer who is looking to install 250 Mitel IP Phones - they currently have a cisco network, most of the switches being Cisco 3550 inline power models.

The customer would rather use the existing switches, rather than upgrading his entire network - has anyone any experience with installing Mitel IP Phones on these switches?

Regards

Andy

Verify the model, it must be 802.af poe (Power Over Ethernet). Cisco made a couple (perhaps more) models that will only work with cisco sets. Sadly I purchased one only to find that it would not work with Mitel sets.

Hope that helps!

Jim

Oppps proto error should be 802.3af. Anyhow found this on Cisco's site:

Q. Does the Cisco Catalyst 3550-24 PWR Switch support the 802.3af inline power standard?
A. No, this switch supports Cisco Pre-Standard Power over Ethernet. The Catalyst 3750 Series and Catalyst 3560 Series support the Cisco Pre-Standard Power over Ethernet and IEEE 802.3af Power over Ethernet.

Your customer will have no choice but to upgrade.

could you not turn off PoE on the switch and use a power hub instead?
